Touch Tuina York Clinic 1

As well as the two clinics in London, Touch Tuina also has another two further north, in the beautiful Cathedral city of York. To find out more about how York 1 came to be, read on as Errol talks about how it all started and why he’s so fond of the city.

How long has the York clinic been open?

The York clinic is where it all started and has been open for about 15 years, although I was working in various clinics in the area before that, so I’ve been actively treating patients in York for around 24 years.

Why York?

Well, that’s where I was living at the time. I have two sons and that’s where they were being brought up. The clinic is in the centre of town, in a really beautiful and historic part and I really like it there. It’s a Grade II listed building with really nice windows, so it’s a lovely place to work. York generally has a slower pace, so opening there first enabled me to take my time and get things right before opening the Kentish Town clinic, where things move at a much faster pace and everything is a bit more hectic. It also enables us to practice Tuina in another part of the country, which really helps to spread the word. Aside from that, the food is generally very good and the surrounding scenery is beautiful!

How often do you work from the York clinic?

Most of my time is spent in London these days but I’m usually there on Mondays. We run courses from there too, so for 6 weekends a year I’ll be there all weekend too.

Who looks after the clinic when you’re not around?

We have a receptionist, Rebecca, who manages the clinic and our practitioner, Anne Marie, who’s been with me for at least 8 years. My son, Dexter, has also now become a Tuina practitioner and he’s based there too. So, between the three of them they take care of the day to day running of the clinic.

How many practitioners work there?

Altogether, we have 8, some of which have been with me since I started teaching in York. As we do the same Student to Master courses there as we do in London, it’s quite common that once they finish the course the students will go on to work in the clinic.

How does the York clinic differ from London?

The clientele tends to be a little older but they seem to generally be healthier than people in London, as they do a lot more outside activities such as cycling, golf and walking, so very active. Our oldest patient in York is 94 and comes in every week! So, it’s a different vibe to London, where the clientele is generally younger and into the more physical kinds of sporting activities. We do get a small selection of footballers from Sunderland, Hull and Leeds, who will travel to the York clinic, but in London we get a lot more, plus athletes, boxers and tennis players, so I suppose it’s natural that London has a higher profile.
