The Health Benefits of Magnesium

Did you know there are many types of Magnesium on offer? The most popular one you’ve probably heard of on social media of late is Magnesium Citrate but we have various forms of Magnesium available at Touch Tuina. So, which ones should you be taking?

To help you to find out, at Touch Tuina we offer Kinesiology, a treatment that uses muscle testing to evaluate dysfunction within the body, highlighting deficiencies so you can have a more targeted approach. Below we break down the four types we sell and their main benefits:

Magnesium Citrate

  • Improved digestion
  • Constipation relief
  • Muscle relaxation

Magnesium Bisglycinate

  • Good bioavailability
  • Improved sleep quality
  • Muscle relaxation
  • Good all rounder
  • Has no laxative effects

Magnesium Threonate

  • Good bioavailability
  • Is the only Magnesium that can cross the blood-brain barrier
  • Supports cognitive function, memory, increases brain magnesium levels
  • Muscle relaxation

Magnesium Chloride

This one is not taken oral form but is used externally in two ways, Magnesium Oil Spray and Magnesium Bath Soak. These are both great for targeted muscle relaxation and work through topical application.

With the bath salts, they dissolve in warm water and absorb through the skin, this can be great after a workout to relieve muscle soreness, promote relaxation and enhance skin health. The oil spray works wonders for localised pain, if you have a sore glute, for example, spray directly on the affected area for relief.

You may have already heard of Epsom Salts, these are actually a type of magnesium compound, specifically Magnesium Sulphate. While both Epsom salts and Magnesium Chloride are popular for baths, there are key differences in their effectiveness.

The main advantage of Magnesium Chloride over Epsom Salts is its superior transdermal absorption and higher bioavailability. This means that Magnesium Chloride may be more effectively absorbed through the skin, providing a greater benefit when it comes to replenishing magnesium levels.

That said, if you already have Epsom Salts, they are still a great option for muscle relaxation and stress relief. However, since Magnesium Chloride penetrates the skin more efficiently, it offers more bang for your buck for those specifically seeking magnesium supplementation.
