6 of our Touch Tuina clients will be running The 2025 London Marathon for worthwhile charitable causes

The 2025 London Marathon

It’s that time of year again! This Sunday will be the 45th edition of this world-famous event, that will see 56,000 people running through the capitol’s streets. Kicking off from Greenwich Park, the 2025 London Marathon will begin at 8.50am. First off will be the elite wheelchair entrants, followed by the elite men at 9.05am. The elite women will go at 09.35am and the mass event will start between 09.35am and 11.30am.

Who’s taking Part?

There are many well-known faces taking part this year, such as Britain’s most successful Olympian of all time, seven-time gold medal-winning cyclist Sir Jason Kenny. You may also spot former England cricketers Sir Andrew Strauss and Sir Alastair Cook, plus Comedian Romesh Ranganathan. Footballers include former Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere, former Chelsea and England captain John Terry and former Juventus and Italy defender Leonardo Bonucci.

How are Touch Tuina involved?

The marathon will also feature 6 of our clients here at Touch Tuina, and we wish them all the best! Everyone who runs does so for a worthwhile charitable cause, so it’s a brilliant thing that they are doing.

Why Tuina Therapy Might Be the Best-Kept Secret for Marathon Runners

If you’re training for a marathon or recovering from one, chances are you’ve tried sports massage therapy or at least thought about it. We’d like to suggest something holistic, have you ever heard of Tuina therapy? Don’t just take our word, hear from our clients.

Rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, Tuina (pronounced twee-nah) is a therapeutic bodywork technique that’s been used for thousands of years to treat everything from posture, and musculoskeletal pain, to energy imbalances. And it might just be the game-changing alternative you’ve been missing in your pre and post-race routine.

When training for a marathon, you’d be aware that preparations start much before the actual run. Likewise, your body has to prepare its muscles, joints, and the nervous and circulatory system much before the marathon. Here’s how Tuina comes into play.

Pre-Run: Get Your Body in the Zone

Tuina is especially effective before a long run or race. Unlike sports massage which often zeroes in on tight muscles, Tuina takes a whole-body approach; focusing on circulation, joint mobility, and energy flow.

Here’s what a pre-race Tuina session can do:

  • Stimulate blood flow, oxygen and energy (qi) to prep your muscles for peak performance.
  • Open up joints and fascia for a smoother, more powerful stride.
  • Enhance coordination and reaction time by activating the nervous system.
  • Promote mental clarity through calming acupressure techniques.

The goal? A body that’s at ease and yet strong and centred; gearing it up to tackle 26.2 miles.

Post-Run: Recover Smarter, Not Just Harder

After the race, your body needs more than a massage, it needs deep recovery and restoration. Tuina helps in aiding this process. Here’s what a post-marathon Tuina session can do:

  • Release tension and soreness by gently working through muscle layers.
  • Flush out metabolic waste and reduce inflammation.
  • Rebalance energy pathways, easing overall fatigue.
  • Promote deep relaxation and better sleep, both essential for recovery.

While sports massage is great for localised treatment, Tuina works on a systemic level, helping your whole body bounce back at a better rate and in a wholesome way.

The Touch Tuina Advantage

With the proven advantage of working with sports professionals, we are trusted by athletes. Here at Touch Tuina, we focus on the ability to bridge the physical and dynamic aspects of your body on the road to recovery. It’s not just about treating tight hamstrings or quads, it’s also about restoring balance, reducing stress, and supporting the body’s natural healing process.

For runners who want to stay in the game long-term, prevent injuries, and recover more deeply, Tuina is a powerful ally. Whether you’re prepping for your next marathon or recovering from one, Tuina therapy can help you scale that extra mile, stronger, faster, and with more ease.

Ready to experience the difference? Book your Tuina session today and give your body the holistic care it deserves.
