Stretch of the Month – The Finger Flick

This month we’re focussing on the hands, with the ‘Finger Flick’ — a valuable exercise specifically designed to target and address circulation issues in the hands.

Start with your palm facing up. Place your thumb over each finger’s tip, beginning with the index and moving towards the little finger. Flick your thumb back while bringing your finger forward, maintaining a fluid motion. Repeat on each finger, and reverse the direction before switching to the other hand.

For the second part of this exercise, use both hands. Cover all four fingers with your spare hand and simultaneously bring the hand on top towards you while moving the fingers underneath away. Repeat these steps on both hands, following the same fluid motion.

This exercise comes with all sorts of benefits. Not only does it effectively address circulatory problems, but it also strengthens weak fingers. This stretch is particularly recommended for individuals engaged in activities requiring prolonged gripping, such as grappling or holding onto objects for extended periods.

For those struggling with conditions like rheumatism-induced hand weakness, the ‘Finger Flick’ proves instrumental in increasing hand strength, making daily tasks like turning a key more manageable. The exercise promotes relaxation in the hands, enhancing sensitivity in the fingers and contributing to overall grip strength. Whether you’re an athlete or someone dealing with age-related challenges, incorporating the ‘Finger Flick’ into your routine can significantly improve hand strength and dexterity.
