This month’s Stretch of the Month is The Calf Stretch 2 with Senior Practitioner Peter, and as last month, we’re focussing on keeping your calves healthy.
Focussing on the claves is important as in Chinese Medicine, the calf plays a crucial role in circulation, helping to pump blood back to the upper body. When the calf muscles are soft and relaxed, blood flow and overall movement improve, promoting better health and balance.
To perform this stretch, stand on a step with your feet shoulder-width apart and your ankles slightly turned outward.
Position your heels off the edge while keeping the rest of your feet on the step and make sure your balance is supported with your hands.
To begin the stretch, shift your weight back into your heels, keeping your legs straight.
Slowly raise your heels back up to the starting position. Repeat.

You should feel a nice stretch in your calves. It’s a good idea to do the The Calf Stretch 2 stretch daily, ideally doing it first thing after getting out of bed. This will promote good blood circulation straight away, before you ask your calves to do any work!
