Moving on from Errol Lynch’s neck and shoulder exercises from last month, we’re going to try and remove the tech neck hump, so to release the traps, open up the pectoral’s and open up the upper thoracic. This one is done up against a wall.
Do you work at a desk all day? Spend a lot of time looking down at your phone? You may be experiencing ‘tech neck’, which is a common issue caused by sitting at a desk, hunched over for prolonged periods of time. The more we do it, the more we experience these symptoms as our neck muscles weaken.
Some symptoms of tech neck:
- Sharp pain in your neck and shoulders
- Stiffness leading to poor range of motion
- Headaches
For this months Stretch of the Month we have a simple exercise to help. Stand facing the wall about one step away from it, bring your hands together, elbows wide, place your elbows on the wall and slowly slide up the wall, your neck should be in line with your arms so your eyes will follow the direction of your elbows. When you are at full extension, slowly work your way back down the wall to chest height, repeat.
Stretch of the month is a monthly ‘at home’ exercise feature, focusing on increasing mobility and decreasing pain in a specific area of the body, this could be back, shoulder, neck, knee, hip and many other areas.
