World Reflexology Awareness Week happens between 23rd-29th of September and is an annual global event that raises awareness about reflexology and its benefits. For those who may not know, Reflexology is a complimentary therapy that involves applying pressure to specific areas of the feet, hands or ears to encourage relaxation, improve blood circulation and add to your overall wellbeing.
How does Reflexology work?
It’s a microsystem treatment where the feet, hands and ears correspond to different parts of the body, including the organs, and by massaging different zonal areas we can target specific issues and help to improve balance as well as overall health.
Reflexology uses the ancient Chinese principle of Qi, or ‘vital energy’. When somebody feels anxious or stressed their body will block Qi, which can cause imbalance and lead to illness, so Reflexology works to keep the Qi flowing through your body, ensuring that you remain in balance and in good health.
In Chinese medicine, different body parts correspond with different pressure points on the body. Reflexologists use maps of these points in the feet, hands and ears to determine where they should apply pressure to send energy through the body. For example, the big toe represents the head and the neck and the mid foot is related to the digestive areas. Around the heels are the reproductive areas, so stimulating these points can regulate the whole of your system, grounding the whole body.

What are the benefits of Reflexology?
Reflexology is widely thought to have positive effects in reducing stress and anxiety, reducing pain, improving moods and general wellbeing, as well as boosting your immune system. It’s noninvasive and comfortable to receive and so is safe even for people with serious health issues.
